Abstract: The paper considers the power impulse system of hydraulic mining machines with percussion action. It also analyzes the approaches, assumptions and methods of solving the problem of elasticity theory for estimation of performance of the machines. Ways of its solution at further researches are outlined. The analysis of results of researches on interaction of the percussion tool with rock is presented. Shortcomings of existing solution methods are noted. Approaches to the improvement of the theory of rock destruction by a percussion instrument on the basis of numerical methods and in a dynamic formulation are proposed. The methods of calculating indicators for the destruction of rock by a percussion instrument are analyzed.
