Abstract: Using the Chernogorsky open-pit mine as an example, this article presents the process and results of addressing the pressing issue of reducing financial costs associated with the process of transporting rock mass by upgrading the skills of heavy-duty dump truck drivers. At the Chernogorsky open-pit mine, an analysis of data from 174 BelAZ-75306 dump truck drivers on their shift quota and specific diesel fuel consumption for the period 2021-2024 revealed that only 26% of drivers meet their shift quota while consuming fuel within the standard, while the remaining 74% exhibit unsatisfactory performance indicators for their shift quota and/or specific diesel fuel consumption. The identified failure of a significant proportion of drivers to meet these standards results in overspending of the enterprise's financial resources associated with rock mass transportation. To reduce these financial costs, the company's specialists ranked BelAZ-75306 dump truck drivers, identifying 127 of them as having the most unsatisfactory performance in terms of shift quota performance and/or specific diesel fuel consumption. To evaluate and improve the qualifications of these drivers, a checklist was developed, and a commission assessment was organized using this checklist. The most qualified and reputable drivers from the Chernogorsky open-pit mine's mining and transport shop were involved in the assessment. Following the driver qualification assessment, they were trained by the most qualified and reputable drivers in the form of master classes. By the end of the first half of 2025, the reduction in financial costs for rock transportation, achieved through the BelAZ-75306 dump truck driver qualification assessment and training, amounted to 43 million rubles at the Chernogorsky open-pit mine.
