Abstract: Quarry walking excavators are one of the main types of equipment for organizing excavation and loading operations in open-pit mining. Due to the difficult climatic and mining conditions, there are challenges in operating this equipment. In addition to the well-known problem of rock mass sticking and freezing to the walking excavator's bucket, there is also a high level of adhesion to the support surfaces, such as the support base and skis. The excavator's walking process is complex and time-consuming, and it does not tolerate downtime or additional work. It also requires increased attention to equipment and devices. Studies conducted at the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals at Siberian Federal University to determine the force of detachment have shown that the adhesion of the rock mass taken from the SUEK-Krasnoyarsk mines to the rubber-rope conveyor belt is much lower than to metal. The paper discusses the main types of excavators used at the enterprise, and for each of them, the main design elements and parameters of devices using used rubber products, such as automobile tires and rubber-rope conveyor belts, are identified and shown. The paper also presents diagrams of the arrangement of materials on the support base and skis of a walking excavator with different layouts, and calculates the main mass and size parameters and quantitative characteristics for each proposed layout using excavators of different types. The calculations of the main parameters showed that the use of schemes using automobile tires can reduce the weight of the structure by more than 1,000 kg when using a small-diameter tire, and up to 900 kg when using a larger-diameter tire, compared to the scheme using a rubber-rope conveyor belt. The use of the proposed devices (using a rubber-rope conveyor belt and car tires) at the SUEK-Krasnoyarsk mines, will reduce the freezing and sticking of rock mass on the support surfaces of walking excavators, which will increase their efficiency.
