Abstract: The relevance of the research is driven by the growing role of Electricity Storage Systems (ESS) in ensuring the stability and flexibility of power systems, particularly in the context of integrating renewable energy sources. The aim of the work is to develop scenario-based forecasts for the development of ESS technologies in the Russian Federation until 2035. The methodology is based on a comparative analysis across key criteria: technological components, environmental impact, energy cost, as well as political and legal readiness. For three scenario forecasts (baseline, positive, and negative), heat maps have been constructed to assess the readiness of various storage technologies to perform six system functions within the Russian power grid. The research results revealed differentiated development trajectories. In the baseline scenario, pumped hydro storage and lithium-ion batteries will maintain leadership with moderate market growth. The positive scenario assumes a technological breakthrough, deep digitalization, and a significant increase in the share of ESS, while the negative scenario is associated with the risks of lagging behind due to insufficient investment and regulatory barriers. The scope of the results encompasses strategic planning in the energy sector, regulatory framework development, and investment decision-making. The conclusions emphasize that the future of ESS in Russia is not predetermined and depends on timely support measures, the development of domestic technologies, and the adaptation of the regulatory environment. The article's materials are of interest to specialists in the fields of energy, public administration, and investment analysis.
