Abstract: The introduction of the IV power supply reliability category into the regulation of grid connection procedures in 2026 has established a new connection regime for large consumers that accept load curtailment without strictly standardized limits on the duration and frequency of interruptions. This issue is of particular importance for mining enterprises because power supply restrictions at such facilities affect not only productivity, but also occupational safety, technological stability and the operation of life-support systems. The purpose of the study is to develop an engineering approach to assessing the applicability of the IV reliability category at mining enterprises. The research is based on the analysis of the current regulatory framework, comparison of power supply reliability categories, a step-by-step engineering assessment of load structure, and a calculated evaluation of the technical and economic consequences of applying the IV category to a typical mining facility. The paper proposes a preliminary assessment algorithm including the identification of non-disconnectable, limitable and disconnectable loads, verification of observability and controllability, compatibility assessment with emergency control automation, and analysis of safe post-curtailment restoration conditions. For a typical coal mine, a classification of electrical loads by admissibility of restriction is developed, and a calculated criterion is proposed to compare the effect of accelerated grid connection with direct curtailment losses and technological damage. It is shown that the IV category can be considered for mining enterprises only if uninterrupted supply is maintained for dewatering, ventilation, hoisting, communication, dispatching and other safety-related systems. The obtained results may be used in selecting a connection scheme, preparing an engineering controllability passport, and conducting a preliminary assessment of the applicability of the IV category at mining industry facilities.
