Abstract: The article discusses the task of analyzing the operation of a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) in the mode of reactive power compensation using the method of simulation modeling. The relevance of the study is due to the current trends in the development of electric power systems, characterized by an increase in the share of nonlinear and rapidly changing loads, as well as the integration of renewable energy sources, which leads to a deterioration in the quality of electricity and voltage fluctuations. The simulation model of the STATCOM control system is implemented based on a two-loop automatic control system in the Simintech dynamic modeling environment. The power balance in the electrical network node is regulated by creating a STATCOM current that compensates for the reactive component of the load current. The compensation current is generated using vector control in the d–q coordinate system, which ensures high accuracy and fast response. The transition from the ABC coordinate system to the d-q coordinate system is performed using the Clark transformation. For the specified parameters of the electrical network, the installed power of the device is calculated, including the parameters of the inductor and capacitor of the power part. The PID controllers are configured using the Skogestad method, which ensures the required quality of transient processes and system stability in a wide range of operating modes. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model for dynamic reactive power compensation. The reduction of current in the power line due to the unloading of the reactive component is shown. The transient processes are characterized by high speed and accuracy. The developed simulation model provides the necessary accuracy and can be effectively used for analysis, optimization of STATCOM operation modes, and further research in the field of modern intelligent power systems.
